Good Morning Well Girls!

This morning I felt like making something extra special for breakfast which is how my chocolate protein french toast came to be! :)

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • 2 slices whole wheat bread
  • 1 tbsp chocolate protein powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 egg whites

Instructions

Whisk the egg whites with chocolate protein powder and cinnamon together and dip bread into liquid until it is fully soaked.

Place the bread in a hot pan and grill on both sides.

 Ingredients for Chocolate “Syrup”

  • 2 tbsp of water
  • 1 tbsp chocolate PB2
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin puree
  • 1 tbsp of chocolate protein powder

Add all the ingredients into a small bowl and blend.  Heat the chocolate “syrup” in the microwave for 10 seconds.

Pour the warm syrup on top of the french toast and add 1/2-1 whole banana (I used half of a banana).

Sooo good and with all the protein and complex carbs it’s sure to keep you satisfied and full for hours. :)

I really did enjoy every single bite…

as you can see!! ;) :)

Try out this recipe and let me know what you think?

Adios, talk to you tomorrow! Enjoy the rest of your weekend. :)

XOXO,

Angel

Saturday Finds, Eats & Workout Routine

Hey there, I told you I’d be back! :)

After almost a week of continental breakfast, I was so ready for a homemade one!  My yummy breakfast this morning was an egg white omelet with spinach, ham, artichokes, pesto & a laughing cow cheese wedge.  I also added some avocado toast to the plate- wow! It’s good to be home. :)

As I mentioned in my earlier post, we took a trip to the Farmer’s Market, a common routine lately for us on a Saturday morning.

I love being able to listen to live music while shopping for my weekly fruit & veggies. :)

For less than $15, I was able to come home with all this fresh loot!

Squash, eggplant, shady lady tomato, apples, pears and the last peaches of the season.

Lunch today was a big ol’ bowl of non fat plain greek yogurt mixed with 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder and topped with Kashi Go Lean cereal and my farmer’s market apples and peaches.

Sweet & filling goodness right there folks… :)

Yesterday’s last hotel workout (unlike the Piloxing dvd the day before) had me sweating (hence the name)! ;)  My heart rate alternated between 50-75% of my max heart rate throughout the entire circuit.  I also burned slightly more calories with this workout in 35 minutes than I did with the 60 minute piloxing workout.  When it comes to exercises, I tend to like more intense workouts so that I can be done quicker. :)

For today’s workout it was much too hot to go outside for a run by the time I got home from the farmer’s market. While Mila takes her nap, I’m going to crank up the air,  jump on the elliptical for a few minutes, do some strength training moves, jump back on the elliptical and repeat  this for 30-45 minutes.

Question: What are your plans for the rest of the weekend?

XOXO,

Angel

A day at the Lake

Happy Weekend to you, my friends! :)

Yesterday was a great day at Crater lake!  Check out the sweet, the funny & the spectacular moments our family shared together.

A certain somebody wasn’t too happy with the drive to Crater Lake…

but  after about an hour of driving, we had arrived!!!

Bella didn’t skip a beat to announce her presence to the park ranger! ;)

Before enjoying the Lake, we grabbed some lunch at Rim Village Cafe.

Lunch was a  Greek salad and Quest bar since there was no meat included with the salad :( .

Sweet moment captured – high five for me! :)

 Check out these views!

The amazing flying baby! ;)

Family photo – this is what happens when you use the camera’s self timer + a tree stump as the photographer! ;)

Mila was more fascinated by Bella than the Lake.

On our way home, we made a pit stop to admire the views of Mt. Shasta.

Family love – I am grateful for this day! :)

Okay, my friends – I’m on my way out the door to the Farmer’s Market but I’ll be back later to share with you my finds, eats and work out! Have an amazing day! :)

Question: What’s your favorite thing about a Farmer’s Market?  What beautiful place have you visited lately?

XOXO,

Angel

Good Morning, my friends!  Happy, Happy Friday to you! :) :)

Can you tell I’m overly excited this morning??  The reason why you make ask?  On the agenda today is a trip to Crater Lake and oh yeah, we get to go home! ;)

“No place else on earth combines a deep, pure lake, so blue in color; sheer surrounding cliffs, almost two thousand feet high; two picturesque islands; and a violent volcanic past. It is a place of immeasurable beauty, and an outstanding outdoor laboratory and classroom. Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States.  The 2nd deepest lake in the Western Hemisphere and the 7th deepest lake in the world.”

Doesn’t that sound so spectacular??  I knew we had to make a visit as soon as I found out we’d be out this way.  Unfortunately, we won’t be going on any crazy hiking trails while we’re there since we have the two girls but that’s okay I’m sure we’ll still be able to catch some great views! :)

Okay, enough Crater Lake talk for now…time to get down to business!  A Piloxing DVD Review awaits us… :)

Post delivery, I did a ton of pilates!  I did it to help ease back into exercising and most importantly build back my core strength –  so when I saw this dvd, I thought it would be the perfect addition to  my collection of workout dvds.  But do you want to hear  the funny part?  I tried this workout for the first time yesterday!  I know, I know, I’m a little embarrassed to admit that but I have a bad habit!  I get super excited about a new workout dvd but then I either do it once or not at all.  I seriously need to stop that which is why this dvd was purposely placed in my bag for this trip! No Excuses here! ;)

I’m happy to report Mila was excited about it…

and she did enjoy watching it! ;)

The majority of this workout alternates between standing pilates and basic boxing moves and even combines the two together in certain moves so that no matter what your arms and legs are always moving.  No equipment is needed for this workout, although there are 1 lb. weights (sold separately) that could be purchased to intensify the workout.

Here is the low down on how the workout went down…

  • 5 minute warm up
  • 40 minutes of kickboxing and pilates alternatively & combined together
  • 10 minutes of leg, glutes and ab work on a floor mat
  • 5 minute cool down

Total workout time 1 hour  – Ouch!!!  I’m not a huge fan of a long workout video, at all.  Don’t get me wrong, I can run for over an hour and even lift weights or do a circuit for 30+ minutes but trying to keep myself interested in  doing a workout dvd for an hour, just really isn’t my thing!  Am I the only one who feels this way?  I will say this though, the instructor is upbeat and does encourage you to have fun during the workout which helped the time to pass faster.  My favorite part of the workout was the mat work at the end of the dvd and in my opinion, it was the most challenging part.

The workout itself was not a heart thumping, sweat dripping sort of workout that I’m usually a fan of.  I wore my heart rate monitor to see if I would be able to reach my fat burning zone?   The workout kept me moving at a moderate rate but my heart rate only ranged from 45-55% of my maximum heart rate, while doing this dvd.  The fat burning zone is 60-85% of  yourmaximum heart rate.

One last fun fact before I end this review, wearing shoes during this workout is an option!  In fact, most of the girls in the video don’t wear any shoes including the instructor.  I on the other hand…wore shoes and I’d wear them again the next time I do the workout.  I actually couldn’t imagine doing this workout without them! :)

If you’re interested, check out this video to see a clip of piloxing on The Doctors.

Question: Do you enjoy a moderate workout or a more intense workout?

XOXO,

Angel

Good day to you from Oregon!

I hope that your week is treating you good, it’s almost time for the weekend! :)

As promised, I’m sharing with you the workout routine that I did yesterday in the hotel. The only equipment needed was a jump rope and a willingness to torch through some major calories! ;) Since it was legs day, I did my lower body circuit and threw in a jump rope to really intensify things!  The entire routine took about 40-45 minutes and really got my heart pumping, sweat dripping and fat melting! :)

Here is the revised version:

  • 20 jumps (rope jumping)
  • 30 Squats & front kicks
  • 30 jumps
  • 30 Standing side leg raises
  • 40 jumps
  • 15 Sumo squats
  • 50 jumps
  • 30 Straight glute raises
  • 60 jumps
  • 30 Lunges
  • 70 jumps
  • 20 Calf raises
  • 80 jumps
  • 30 Side lunges
  • 90 jumps
  • 20 Standing backward leg raises
  • 100 jumps
  • 20 second squat hold
  • 80 jumps
  • 30 Squats & front kicks
  • 30 Standing side leg raises
  • 60 jumps
  • 15 Sumo squats
  • 30 Straight glute raises
  • 40 jumps
  • 30 Lunges
  • 20 Calf raises
  • 20 jumps
  • 30 Side lunges
  • 20 Standing backward leg raises
  • 40 jumps
  • 20 second squat hold
  • 30 Squats & front kicks
  • 20 Standing side leg raises
  • 60 jumps
  • 15 Sumo Squats
  • 30 Straight glute raises
  • 30 Lunges
  • 80 jumps
  • 20 Calf raises
  • 30 Side lunges
  • 30 Standing backward leg raises
  • 100 jumps
  • 20 second squat hold

1,020 jumps + lots of leg work = sexy legs! :)

My post workout meal was scrumptious!  I ate a few of my turkey chili muffins (I really do need to get the recipe up on the blog this week-it’s soo darn good) along side a chobani yogurt mixed with my trail mix.

Turkey chili muffins

Greek yogurt with kashi go lean cereal & trail mix

Before it was time to hit the road again, I made a pit stop at WalMart to pass some time, while the hubs finished up work.  I went in search of some freeze dried fruit since I like to keep something sweet on hand, in case a craving hits.  The key is to be prepared, people ;) … so allow me to introduce you to Crunchies! :)

Like the title states, their crunchy and super sweet in a very good way!   I choose the mixed fruit bag, which was filled with apples, blueberries, peaches, strawberries, mangoes and rasberries.

Yum, Yum, Yum!! :)

In my opinion, freeze dried fruit is way better than the traditional dried fruit.   Shall we compare the two?? Okay lets!! :)

Traditional dried apples contains 110 calories in ½ cup serving and a whopping 21g of sugar – Scary!!!

Crunchie’s freeze dried apples has only 35 calories in ½ c serving, 7g of sugar – 1/3 of the sugar that the dried apples contained.

Nothing else was added to the bag, only fruit in here baby!  In my books, that’s a WINNER! :)

******************************

The breakfast bar this morning was filled with danishes, belgian waffles and biscuits & gravy but I grabbed two pieces of wheat toast and a banana.  I also added my Barney almond butter and a Kind bar that I brought from home to make it a complete & filling breakfast. :)

It’s always a good thing to be prepared with some basic essentials while traveling and this morning was a great example. :)

Question: What’s your favorite flavor Kind bar?  Right now, I’m loving this dark chocolate nuts & sea salt bar (with only 5g of sugar in it).

Try my Jump rope & Lower Body Circuit and let me know how you like it?

Talk to you later! :)

XOXO,

Angel

Tastes like dessert.

Good morning from the Northern Coast of California!

I just couldn’t wait to share with you the tasty post workout meal I had yesterday!  It tasted more like dessert than anything else…Yum!! :)

In the bowl went 3/4 cup of non-fat plain greek yogurt with a dab of honey and a half scoop of vanilla protein powder.  I also topped it with cinnamon and an apple crunch vitatop. ;) Remember the ones I bought last week?  While I’ve been dying to try out the new flavor of vitatop and I must say it did not disappoint me!

 250 calories, 30g Protein & 8g fiber- can’t beat that! :)

**********

As  I mentioned yesterday, we had to hit the road again.  We arrived late last night, after spending most of the day in the car.

At least it was an enjoyable one, the baby slept most of the time…

which makes for a very happy momma! ;)

Since my seat is in the back with Mila nowadays, Bella gets to ride shotgun.  I’m guessing by these photos, she loves it! ;)

Two hours into the ride, I was hungry for a snack so I munched on some veggies and jalapeno greek yogurt dip, sooo good!!

Has anyone ever tried this dip? It’s crazy, addicting good!  I love the spice and tanginess, it’s packed with.  (I purchase mine from Costco – and use it as a dip or in place of mayo & mustard on my sandwiches and wraps)

Four hours into the drive with about 3 more hours to go, we decided to grab dinner on the road. We wanted something quick, fresh and fast so we stopped at Safeway to order sandwiches from their Signature Cafe.   I ordered a chicken sandwich on 7 grain bread with mustard and all the veggies.  It was tasty and did the job, but next time, I’ll have them toast the bread. :)

Close-up & almost gone! ;)

Mila enjoyed her tofu and broccoli on the road too.

Before reaching home stretch, the hubs stopped to for gas and a few refreshments…

his choice for me – a Starbuck’s vanilla light double shot espresso drink.  I only managed to drink half of it though, it was a little too sweet for me.

********************

This morning I woke up and wanted to find out what kind of continental breakfast the hotel provided?

In a sea of donuts, muffins and bagels…I managed to make out with what I thought to be a pretty great breakfast! Coffee, steel oat bread, a banana and 2 hard boiled eggs with my Barney almond butter, I brought from home.

For lunch, I’m equipped with my turkey chili muffins and fruit, that I also brought from home.

Time to get in some exercise, I’ll let you know what I did next post.

Question: What’s a snack that you have, that tastes more like dessert??

XOXO,

Angel
