Cut 100 calories the easy way – Part II

In need of more simple ways to cut calories? Ok, here you go! :)

  1. Eat a corn tortilla with your Mexican dish instead of a flour tortilla.
  2. Eat your burger without a bun.
  3. Drink sparkling water instead of soda.
  4. Eat fresh fruit instead of fruit from a can slathered in syrup.
  5. Enjoy grapes instead of raisins.
  6. Eat cake without the frosting.
  7. Stop eating when you hit the crust.  The edges and bottoms of baked goods  are especially caloric because they absorb the butter used to grease the pan.
  8. Eat sorbet instead of traditional ice cream.
  9. Ditch the chocolate ice cream for a fudgsicle.
  10. Instead of pudding eat sugar free jell-o.
  11. Substitute nonfat greek yogurt for a serving of sour cream.
  12. Use low-sodium chicken broth instead of oil to saute meat and veggies.
  13. Swap low-fat cottage cheese for whole-milk ricotta when you make lasagna or stuffed shells.
  14. Enjoy a grilled chicken sandwich instead of a crispy chicken sandwich.
  15. Dip your dinner roll in marinara sauce instead of olive oil.
  16. Avoid anything breaded.  Flour and bread crumbs not only add calories but they also absorb more cooking oil.

Share your easy trick to cut calories.

XOXO,

Angel

Cut 100 calories the easy way – Part I

New Years is upon us and we all want to start the year on a good note, right?  Here are a few tricks to save you major calories while celebrating the new year and beyond.
  1. Drink one glass of water, after each cocktail beverage.  Pacing yourself can help you cut back on at least one cocktail, if not more.
  2. Sip on a single glass of wine instead of downing two beers
  3. Order drinks on the rock instead of frozen.  Slushy drinks tend to be made with mixers that contain added sugar and syrups.
  4. Sip wine out of a champagne flute and not an oversize goblet.
  5. Want a frilly drink? Order a daiquiri instead of a pina colada.
  6. Gotta have your breakfast carbs? Split your bagel with a friend or co-worker.
  7. Swap orange juice for the real deal – an orange.
  8. Eat 4 egg whites instead of 2 whole eggs.
  9. If you order pancakes, hold the butter.
  10. Leave the cheese out of your sandwich.
  11. Use mustard on your sandwich instead of mayo.
  12. Leave the croutons off your salad.
  13. Enjoy a slice of veggie or cheese pizza instead of a meat lover’s pizza.
  14. Drink your ice tea unsweetened.
  15. Order a turkey burger instead of a beef burger.
I’ll be back tomorrow with 15 more simple tricks to cut calories. :)
XOXO,
Angel

Last year, I was  pregnant on NYE and this year I have an almost one year old daughter, so the plan for this New Year’s Eve is to surround ourselves with close family, yummy food, champagne and make our own little dance party at home. ;)

Regardless of your plans, whether it be a night out on the town or a low key evening at home, I think you should shine bright like the diamond, you are! :)

It seems to work!

The celebrations continue! :) We got to spend last night with a few special friends for a special birthday, more on that in a bit…

I am happy to report that the green tea + chia seed flush does seem to work and I definitely plan to incorporate a serving of it in my normal routine. Have you tried it? Will you try it?  I recommend it! :) Check out my post from yesterday, if you need the recipe.

Yesterday, I was pretty excited to try out my Planters NUT-rition peanut butter for breakfast so I toasted up some P28 bread and topped it with the peanut butter, strawberries and banana -Yum!! :)  For lunch, I decided to have breakfast for lunch, since I skipped out on eggs for breakfast.  I sauteed bell peppers, breakfast chicken sausage and butternut squash, cooked up some egg whites and mixed in some salsa – hit the spot, I tell ya’! ;) For dinner, I had two slices of cheese pizza and a few glasses of red wine – not pictured.

Confession time! ;) I’ve sorta been slacking on my workouts lately with Christmas and our vacation thrown in the mix but fortunately, have had some great workout sessions the last couple of days! YAY me! :) Yesterday, I worked on legs and threw a new move into my routine.

Single Leg Deadlift

Stand with your feet hip-width apart and hold your weight of choice.  Lifting your right foot to balance on the left, engage your abs as you hinge forward from your hip, simultaneously reaching the weight toward your standing foot and extending your right leg straight back to hip level (or as close as you can come without arching your back). Return to standing, then repeat. Do three sets on each side.

Single Leg Deadlifts can be done with a variation of weights.  Yesterday, I used the barbell.

Green Tea + Chia Seed Flush

I found this on IG a couple of days ago and gave it a try last night after buying some lemon and ginger at the store yesterday.

I modified it a bit – leaving out the 1 tsp of honey & a dash of cayenne pepper but you can most definitely add the two if you want.

Here’s what is needed for the drink:

  • A green tea bag steeped in a mug of hot water
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp thinly sliced ginger
  • juice from 1/3-1/2 of a lemon
A cure for over eating during the holidays to help with bloat and indigestion.  Consume 3-4 servings in one day or one serving everyday.

I ate the ginger & the chia seeds – but I don’t think you have to eat the ginger. ;)

I drank one ‘flush mug’ last night and plan to drink 3 servings today and  than go back to one serving each day after today.

Oh and check out my AWESOME finds from the 99 cent store yesterday! In a regular grocery store each one  of these items could cost $3-5 each so I really consider my trip there to be a SUCCESS!!  I really do need to go there more often! :) ;) They had my favorite Mrs. Dash seasoning in Fiesta Lime & Extra Spicy and after seeing seeing Planter’s NUT-rition on several other blogs I’ve been meaning to give them a try and am excited to try them out now! :)

A quick glimpse of Christmas 2012 :)

Christmas Eve

Before attending church on Christmas Eve, we decided to have lunch at River City Brewery. I ordered their ABC Sandwich - on focacia bread with sliced turkey breast, avocado, bacon, tomato, white cheddar, pesto aioli, and onions, served with vegetable pasta salad. Unfortunately, it looked and sounds better than it tastes, it was just okay to me.

Isn’t she lovely? :)

Man, I love these two!! :)

After church, we cruised around and enjoying looking at the Christmas lights in a nearby neighborhood than we ended the evening with a movie at home and a bottle of champagne.

Christmas Day

We spent the day at my parent’s house and my mom made an amazingly delicious brunch for all of us, which consisted of beans, potatoes, tamales, salsa, chili verde and eggs – it really couldn’t get any better than that! :)

Mila enjoyed opening all her presents at Grandma & Grandpa’s …I think this one was her favorite, though! :)

SoCal Trip, Part 2

Today is a very special day for our family. Although, Mila’s ‘actual’ birthday isn’t for a couple of weeks, today we are celebrating our baby’s girl’s 1st Birthday with all our family & friends! Before I begin running around to get ready for her party, I had to pop in real quick to share the 2nd part of our SoCal trip! :)

In front of the Staples Center, before the game!

It was truly beautiful around there with all the Christmas lights, tree and ice rink! It was also extremely chilly and windy that night, which is why you see me holding on to Mila’s hat – if I hadn’t that little furry hat would have been gone-zos! :)

After taking a walk around L.A.Live, we went back to our room to get Mila changed into her Lakers’ outfit!

I think we have a true Lakers fan on our hands – she loved the game and clapped each time she saw the crowd clapping! ;)

She was more into the game than us! ^^^ ;)

After the game, L.A. Live…

Next day, morning fuel! An egg white omelet with veggies, some delicious potatoes and fruit – it was absolutely delicious! :)

The hotel we stood at was J.W. Marriott.

Checking out their rooftop pool – we’ll def have to go again when it’s warmer to enjoy it!. :)

Anybody watch Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?  This is the same place ^^ Mauricio had his party and where all the drama happened!

Before heading home, we made a pit stop at Malibu Beach

and to eat at Duke’s Malibu.  The view from our table was breathtaking and the freshly grilled fish tacos were great! :)

Off I go, I have tons to do before the party begins! I’ll be back later in the day tomorrow to share some photos from today’s celebration! :)

Question: What toppings do you add to your fish tacos?

XOXO,

Angel
