Yup, you read that right! I’m going gluen-free for the next 2 weeks…as a experiment! Yesterday, I asked our Facebook community, “who there was gluten free?” and I was very suprised at how many people said, yes! This experiment will challenge me to try new things, come up with new recipes and most importantly, share my experience with all of you.
What is Gluten? Gluten is a sticky protein found in wheat, rye barley and other grains, as well as many processed foods, soups, salad dressings and sauces. Gluten, comes from the Latin word “glue.” It is the adhesive material that holds the flour together to make bread. It gives bread dough its elasticity and baked goods their fluffiness and chewiness.
A diet without gluten can help increase energy levels and improve a number of digestive issues.
Here is the shopping list I put together for myself as soon as I realized I was going to go gluten free for the next 2 weeks.
- GF Oats
- Brown Rice
- Quinoa
- Almond butter
- Turkey
- Chicken
- Fish
- Pork
- Steak
- Veggies
- Fruit
- Sweet potatoes
- Beans
- Nuts

Keep in mind -there are exceptions to almost everything. For example, some yogurts and spices may have gluten. This is why it is so important to read food labels.
Take a look at this list of ingredients to avoid on a gluten free diet.

So there it is! I’m doing this for me & I’m also doing this for you.
Oh and one more thing, I do allow myself two cheat meals a week and I haven’t decided yet, if I will keep those meals gluten-free too! We’ll see when the time comes but I’ll definitely let you know what I decide!

Question: Do you live a gluten-free life? What has been your experience?

Hi! Good luck on the gluten free! We did it for 6 months, with a cheat day once a month only… it was really hard in the beginning because I realized that nearly every meal I cooked had gluten in it! BUT, after some serious discipline and shopping trips, we changed our menu completely. I lost 25 pounds without any additional activity at all, just be excluding the gluten and changing my eating habits. If you are only doing it two weeks, I would suggest NO CHEAT days on gluten… there are great meals you can still have without cheating! We finished out 6 month ordeal, but I have now become about 95% gluten free in our home, as well as eating out. We are all better for it, so I make it our first option every time, unless we’re truly jonesin’ for that yummy something-or-other that we just can’t get gluten free! Good luck… and thanks for the list – there are a few things on here I never thought to use!
Thank you Marianne.
We have been on Paleo for three weeks and loving it, therefore gluten-free.
I’m liking fwd to seeing your recipes!
